In our interactions with our social environment, it is primarily things or activities with ‘value’ that are considered meaningful and therefore desirable: a house, a car, holidays, nice clothes, expensive jewellery, etc.
Possessions and money play an increasingly central role.
Intangible values, on the other hand, are marginalised:
- The handshake as a symbol of personal values
(on the far left of the first magnetic board) - The owl as a symbol of intellectual values
(at the very top of the second magnetic board) - The heart as a symbol of spiritual/religious values
(at the very bottom of the third magnetic board) - The family as a symbol of moral values
(on the far right of the 4th magnetic board)
